Montana is located in the northwestern part of the country. It is known for it's extensive mountain ranges, including the Rocky Mountains, which effectively cuts the state in two and gives it two different climates. The western part of the state has much milder winters but cooler summers as well. The eastern part of the state has great variations in temperature, but most often summers are long and hot and winters very cold and snow-filled. The entire state gets a large amount of snow every year.

  • Roofs must be equipped to handle very heavy snow loads. Hurricane clips and lateral bracing greatly improve a roof's durability and are recommended in snowy and/or windy areas.
  • Footings for foundations and other concrete work must be dug well below the national standard - the frost line often exceeds 4 feet in some areas of the state.
  • Consider installing replacement windows in your home - this will save you on heating and cooling costs and pay for themselves over time.
